Classes at studios or with people I love:
- Gaga dance classes! - Gaga is a modern dance technique developed by Ohad Naharin, who is an Israeli contemporary dancer and choreographer. He served as artistic director of Batsheva Dance Company from 1990; he stepped down in 2018. The movement is based on circular motions. They're offering donation based classes online. This is a rare opportunity since I haven't see many studios outside of Israel offering this technique. It feels great!
- San Francisco Ballet School will hold a virtual ballet barre class with SF Ballet School Director, Patrick Armand. For both professional dancers and ballet students currently training at the advanced/pre-professional level, ages 14 and up. (Saturday, May 2, 2020, 10:00 – 11:00 am PST). Registration closes on Friday, May 1 at 12:00 pm. All registered participants will receive a Zoom link by 4:00pm on Friday, May 1. Fill out this FORM and do one per participant. Contact Karen Maloney at classes@sfballet.org with any questions.
- San Francisco Ballet School will hold an Adult Ballet Workshop in June. The class schedule is adjusted and has a reduced price of $425. Click HERE to register on May 4 at 9am!
- Irina and Max of ABT are teaching online on STEPS on BDWY, NYC.
- Kaatsbaan is a dancer "park" that invites dancers primarily from the American Ballet Theater to teach classes and have residencies. The current director is a friend (Sonja Kostich) and former colleague of mine from the San Francisco Ballet. They're offering online classes, donation based from phenomenal dancers like Stella Abrera and Christine Shevchenko.
- Peridance Studio in NYC is offering a variety of classes online. I always loved going to Peridance, even way after I was no longer dancing professionally. Their contemporary classes are out of this world - so demanding, so creative. And they're offering online classes from a wide range of disciplines including Brazilian Samba (loved this!) and West African Dance.
- Ashley Bouder is teaching classes online and is a principal dancer at NYCB. Her dancing is explosive and precise. I truly admire her. You can learn about her story here, and she has been advocating for women's voices in dance and choreography, and founded the Ashley Bouder Project. I love listening to her deep knowledge of Balanchine ballets, like her interpretation of Serenade here.
- Tamara Rojo is principal dancer and artistic direction of the English National Ballet. Her dancing is clean and classical, and English National presents many interesting contemporary and classical ballets. Tamara teachers classes online and has many videos on stretching.
- Herman Cornejo is a principal dancer with American Ballet Theater. He has gorgeous lines, flying jumps, and beautiful expression. You can take his class here.
